Today, I’m super excited to share my recent adventure at Blackpool Zoo with you. and if you haven’t visited yet, I highly recommend you do!*
Not only did I get to see some amazing animals, but I also experienced first hand just how inclusive and welcoming this zoo really is for everyone – something that really warmed my big bear heart!
From the moment I arrived at Blackpool Zoo, I could tell that this was a place that cares deeply about making sure every single visitor has a fantastic experience.
Whether you’re young, old, or have additional needs like me, Blackpool Zoo goes above and beyond to ensure that everyone feels included and supported during their visit!
Thoughtful Accessibility Everywhere 🦁
One of the first things I noticed was how accessible the entire zoo is.
With smooth, well-maintained paths, wheelchair users and families with prams can easily navigate around the grounds.
Many enclosures even have raised viewing platforms, so everyone gets a great view of the animals, regardless of their height or mobility needs.
Something else I loved is the signage around the zoo, which is super clear!
There are so many visual aids, easy-to-read maps, and even sensory-friendly information points that help make the experience less overwhelming for visitors with sensory sensitivities.
Communication Made Easy 🐘
Something that really stood out to me was how Blackpool Zoo supports communication for visitors who use different methods of communicating including Makaton or British Sign Language (BSL).
As someone who loves promoting inclusive communication, this made me do a little bear dance of joy! 🕺
Sensory-Friendly Spaces 🦒
For those of us who need a bit of quiet or calm during the day, Blackpool Zoo also offers sensory-friendly areas. These spaces are designed to be peaceful and provide a break from the excitement. It’s perfect for anyone who might feel overwhelmed or need some time to recharge before heading off to see the giraffes or penguins again.
Inclusivity at Its Heart 🦓
Blackpool Zoo really has thought about everything – from accessible toilet facilities to quiet zones and staff trained in disability awareness.
They’ve created a space where everyone can enjoy the wonders of nature without barriers.
It’s clear that they understand the importance of inclusivity, and that makes every visitor feel valued and respected.
A Roaring Good Time 🦍
At the end of my visit, I left with a BIG smile (and maybe a few snacks in my bear bag).
Blackpool Zoo isn’t just a place to see incredible animals; it’s a space where everyone can feel at home. Whether you’re visiting with young children, have additional needs, or just want a fun day out, I can’t recommend Blackpool Zoo enough.
